Project Background
Located on an Intercoastal canal on a prime street in South Beach, this waterfront property needed technology modernization. Smart Spaces was brought in from New York to add their unique flavor to the interior design work being carried out.
Replacing an old Crestron system and upgrading all capabilities was an important requirement when this NYC client moved in. Adding TVs, Shading, Lighting, Climate, Security & Gate Control, WiFi & Internet, Power Redundancy, Pool Control, Anywhere Intercom, etc., the list goes on. When the next owner moved in, an additional makeover was carried out, adding invisible speakers to clean up sight lines and an Outdoor TV. This project was featured in the Netflix series, Designing Miami

As is typical in a Smart Spaces smart home, technology is seen only when needed, and this home is no exception. Large OLED 4K TVs are situated behind pocket doors, with speakers concealed behind an acoustic cloth, or mudded into the ceiling. Outdoor TVs disappear into porcelain outdoor kitchens, and spa pools magically spring to life at the touch of a button. The best brands, such as Seura, Future Automation, Pentair, Sony, and Control4, were installed to make this magic happen.
Control4 supports tens of thousands of different devices made by various brands, allowing a rich blend of the most attractive and quality products to be specified.
The Solution
Lighting Makes the Difference
With over 150 light fixtures both inside and out, this project needed some clever solutions. Outdoor lighting scenes with time of year aware dusk to dawn scheduling, along with decorative pond pumps and lights, add majesty and curb appeal galore. Inside, engraved keypads make walk-up control a snap, and with the scene and action clearly printed and backlit on each button, even a first-time guest can easily operate the home.
Handheld remote controls and in-wall touch screens can control the mood, and smartphones can even do this from anywhere in the world.

With such a large property, and so much of it open plan, the design team added accents like automated linen drapes, wall sconces, chandeliers and invisible in-celing speakers. Whether it’s a family dinner on the extended kitchen island, or a formal gathering at this 14-seat dining room table, all can be accomodated at the touch of a button.
